Fixed Gear Brewing Co. launched in late 2018, opening its first location at 20 Alma St S in Guelph, Ontario. Named after Guelph’s devoted cycling culture, the 5,500 sq. ft. brewery features a 10 hectolitre brewhouse, retail store, and tap room. There are a variety of beers on tap and available to take home, including a blonde ale, German pilsner, Italian lager, IPAs, and Sours.
Not even a full year after opening its original location on Alma St, Fixed Gear opened a second brewery in Guelph at 355 Elmira Rd N, taking over StoneHammer Brewing after it closed its doors. The second location allows for larger amounts of beer and new depths of flavour with the copper kettle on-site. Fixed Gear Brewing president and founder, Mike Oosterveld, has kept StoneHammer alive through relaunching and reviving some of the brand’s well-known and loved ale, pilsner, lager, and stout recipes.
The Elmira Rd location has a merchandise area, accessible washrooms, and beer garden tables. Though food is not served in-store, customers are welcome to order food and eat in. Both establishments are dog-friendly and family-friendly, while the Alma St location has a large outdoor patio that occasionally features live music and visits from a variety of unique food trucks. Customers can also enjoy beer while partaking in various events and activities, including bingo and euchre nights. Yoga on Tap is taking place on Sunday, September 27 at the Alma location, outdoors from 10:30am – 11:30am – a $20 ticket includes a 12 oz beer (bring your own water and mat).
The Fixed Gear Brewing Cherry Training Wheels Sour is available at LCBOs across the GTA along with their Stout and IPA arriving this October. For those wanting to purchase online, Fixed Gear offers $15 standard shipping across Ontario and free delivery within Guelph on orders over $30 (using code FREE at checkout). Curb side pick-up is available daily at both locations and a walk-up window is open at the Alma St location.
