For over 25 years Star Clippers has operated three of the world’s largest and tallest sailing vessels, providing an authentic sailing adventure like no other.
The majestic sight of vast sails capturing the breeze and propelling the ship forward to its next destination is one of the features that set Star Clippers’ vessels apart from mainstream cruise lines. A stroll along the teak deck — where neat coils of ropes sit alongside loungers — soon makes you realize that this is not about cruising in the ordinary sense.
In 1990, Swedish sailing enthusiast Mikael Krafft founded Star Clippers, fulfilling his dream of reviving the 18th-century golden age of tall ships for a new generation of travellers. The fleet consists of three ships, each sailing to famous and intimate, lesser-known ports in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Southeast Asia, including Transatlantic, Grand Voyages and Panama Canal itineraries. With only 170–227 passengers onboard, guests can enjoy the amenities and ambiance of a private yacht, casual elegance, and delectable fine international cuisine with professional, personalized service.
On Star Clippers ships, passengers are encouraged to help raise the sails, learn how to tie sailor’s knots, lay in the bowsprit net-suspended above the open sea, or climb the mast to the Crow’s Nest for a stunning panoramic view.
A fourth vessel, Flying Clipper, is under construction and will be launched in 2019. If you’re looking for an intimate, authentic sailing experience among well-travelled, sophisticated guests’, Star Clippers will be the adventure of a lifetime.
