Things You Should Know When You Travel

Passport Backup

This is an important rule but often forgotten. Make a few copies of your passport. Give a copy of your passport to someone you trust back home, and keep a copy with you at all times or in a safe place in your hotel room. If your passport gets lost or stolen at least you have a copy to help prove your citizen ship and possibly help you get back into your country.

Have extra cash on hand especially local cash. Bank cards might not always work. Keep spare change on hand especially for transportation.

Call Your Banks

Let your banks know you will be leaving the country this way you are insured that your cards wont freeze due to ‘suspicious’ use.

Research The Area

This is very important. Take your time doing your research. Get to know the area. Learn where the nearest transit station is and or police station. Know where you can go to get free wifi and don’t forget to read reviews of local restaurants and hotels. This can prevent you from getting into situations you would much rather avoid.

Plan Your Day

Planning your day can help you stay organized and insure that you have time to do all that you want to do while on vacation.

Travel insurance is extremely important! Even if your gone for a day, or two, travel insurance is something you should always have. You never know what can happen. It is better to be prepared than to be caught off guard. CAA has different insurance packages that can protect you from unforeseen emergencies. If you are a frequent traveller they have a Worry-Free year coverage plan with just one purchase.

Go To Your Doctors

If you are travelling abroad it is important to let your doctor know. They can give you advice and recommend what pharmaceutical products you should have on hand in case on an emergency. Make sure you are up-to-date with your shots and fill any medical prescriptions.

Bring Extra Batteries, Chargers, Adapters

It is important to bring an extra charger or batteries wether it is for your phone, camera, laptop etc.  Make sure you invest in a travel voltage adapter as plugs across the world are different.

Leave The Info of Where You’re Staying With Someone You Trust Back Home

Leave the info of the places you are staying with someone you trust. If there is ever an emergency it will be easy to get a hold. It is always good to let someone know where you are for safety purposes.

Check Out Events Happening In Your Area

Make the best out of your trip! Check for local events and entertainment listings. Find out the most popular things to do and see in the city where you’re staying. Research the best places to eat and enjoy your trip.

Check The Weather

It is always good to check what the weather is suppose to be like a head of time this way you can pack accordingly and switch any plans if necessary.

Safety Is Important. Be Firm If Someone Is Bugging You

Your safety is extremely important. If you feel uncomfortable try and remove yourself from the situation as soon as you can. If someone is bugging you be firm, stand your ground and tell them no. Make sure you are always in and around a public place.

Be Cautious Of What You Say/Do

It is important to research and study the culture of where you are staying. Be cautious of what you say and the hand gestures you use as to not offend anyone.

Always remember to be prepared and have fun! Take lots of photos or log your adventures in a journal! Remember to make memories!
