When I picture my Dad, Josh, I remember his hands. They were strong, worn and stained – a product of years as a lumberjack in upstate New York. He put in long hours, day after day, without complaint. My dad’s commitment, work ethic and values inspired me to create Josh Cellars as a tribute to him. In the beginning, I only made one wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon; It’s big and bold but always approachable, just like my dad. Eventually we added Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, a Red Blend, Sauvignon Blanc, and, most recently, a Rose. It took a long time because we only release well-balanced and delicious wines, and that turns out to be really difficult. But as dad said, most things worth doing are. People ask me all the time how we get our wines to taste the way they do. Whether it’s our bold Cabernet Sauvignon or elegant Sauvignon Blanc, the key is balance. Like music or food, each element must complement but not overpower. It takes a lot of hard work and attention to detail. We’ve gotten accolades from critics and, while that’s great, what gives me the most joy is when you tell me you love my wine. Try it and let me know what you think.
