Taste Your Way Along Ontario’s Biggest Self-Guided Butter Tart Tour
With more than fifty participating bakeries from across the Kawarthas Northumberland region, there’s a tart to please just about everyone. And we won’t even ask questions about what a butter tart should contain… Raisins? Pecans? Currants?
Our bakers have won awards for their unique flavours and also for the simple elegance of the quintessentially Canadian plain butter tart. Tour locations are accessible from Toronto, Kingston or Ottawa. Make this year-round, self-guided tour a sweet addition to your next weekend escape or day trip!
OH CANADA! WE’RE TAKING THE TART TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Can the butter tart be any more Canadian than it already is? We asked our bakers to create what they consider to be a true Canadian flavoured tart to mark Canada’s 150th birthday. A select number of them have concocted a totally delectable line of scrumptious specialty tarts within what we’re calling “The Canadiana Collection.”
The collection features uniquely Canadian flavours such as the Nanaimo Bar Butter Tart, The Trudeau, The S’More Butter Tart, The Maple Bacon Goat Cheese, The Stompin’ Tom, The Canada 1-5-0, the Double Double and the Maple Ice Wine to name a few. LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN
Join us on Saturday September 23rd for the annual Kawarthas Northumberland Butter Tart Taste-Off at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market where bakers will vie for the tastiest tart title in five categories. Doors open at 9:00AM. Judges will vote for Best Plain Butter Tart, Best Emerging Baker, Best “Canadiana” Butter Tart, Best Gluten Free Butter Tart, and Best of the Best Butter Tart. Buy a hand crafted tart (or several) from the many competitors at the event.
