TAP Portugal is one of the most experienced airlines in the world, operating for over 70 years and serving North America since the 1960s. On June 10, 2017 TAP will launch five weekly nonstop flights between Toronto Pearson and Portugal’s capital, Lisbon.
The timing couldn’t be better. Portugal, sometimes called Europe’s “best kept secret,” has never been hotter. Travel + Leisure magazine just named Portugal as the Destination of the Year. It ranked at the top of must-see lists for 2017 from Departures magazine and the Associated Press.
TAP serves seven destinations in Portugal. Canadians may connect in Lisbon to Porto, Portugal’s second largest city, and to the Azores, Madeira, and Algarve. Lisbon is the second closest European capital to North America, so it’s also a natural gateway to Europe.
The airline recently introduced the Portugal Stopover program, allowing travellers to experience two destinations for the price of one. Whether you’re flying to destinations in Portugal, or to one of over 65 destinations served by TAP throughout Europe and Africa, you can enjoy a stop in Lisbon and Porto for up to 3 nights at no additional airfare. The program offers a variety of benefits, including exclusive discounts at hotels, complimentary wine at participating restaurants, and even free tours, shopping discounts and other perks to create a truly unique experience.
TAP launched a new branded fare structure, offering customers more freedom of choice when purchasing tickets throughout the entire TAP network. Customers can now select the products that best meet their travel needs and their selection determines the conditions and price of the trip. There are four fare brands available for travel in Economy (Discount, Basic, Classic and Plus) and two in Business (Executive and Top Executive).
The new Toronto route will be served with newly reconfigured Airbus A330 aircraft, with 20 lie-flat seats in Executive Class and new slim-line seats in the Economy cabin, outfitted with the most advanced IFE systems, the Panasonic EX-3. TAP is expanding and updating its entire long-haul fleet and has a firm order with Airbus for 53 new aircraft, including 14 A330- 900neo, 15 A320neos and 24 A321neos.
With the new aircraft and new routes, today’s TAP is enjoying a new renaissance, doubling the number of North American travellers flown last year alone and winning major awards. Conde Nast Traveler called TAP’s Stopover program one of the best on offer last year, and Global Traveler voted TAP as “Best Airline in Europe” for the last six years consecutively.
There’s no time like now to book travel to Portugal — whether it’s your main destination, or as a Stopover visit en route to Europe or Africa.
